Celebrate open source over food, drinks, and great company! Hacktoberfest is all about encouraging meaningful contributions to the open source ecosystem, and we would love to see you for the 2019 edition!

What is Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with DEV — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Hacktoberfest Hack Day SF is meant to support open source contributors of all experience levels across the Bay Area and is sponsored by Mixmax and Twilio.

All attendees are required to abide by the Hack Code of Conduct which we have chosen to adopt for this event.

Call for Mentors

We are looking for mentors to help us during this event! If you have some experience with open source, and
want to help guide attendees into landing their first (or second, or third, or nth!) contribution, we would love to have you
join us! Please send an email to lsiegle@twilio.com or flarranaga@twilio.com so we can coordinate.

What we ask of you is:

- Please be on time for the start of the event.
- Be willing to help and explain to people how to make contributions.
- Review and help us enforce the Hack Code of Conduct that we have chosen to adopt for this event.

Attendees

We are seeking a group of technical people who can bring a diverse set of backgrounds and perspectives. Ideally, you have developer skills. You should also have some of the following skills, experience, or interests: 

 
- CLI: Some experience in the Terminal environment, NodeJS and NPM installed 
- Serverless API: API / tooling experience
- Development in accounts that send >100 messages/day and want to know what happened to them - did they error, are they getting filtered.

- Building immersive experiences in the web browser
- Using APIs, especially Twilio APIs
- Using SMSs and WhatsApp to communicate with your customers
- Communicating with text messages in groups of >2
- Building exceptional customer service experiences
- Interest in building AI/ML models, real time transcriptions, or integration with your own speech engines

Getting Here

We're close to the Trans-Bay Terminal, as well as the Embarcadero BART Station and Muni lines.

Accommodations

The building is wheelchair-friendly, there are elevators that go to the space, and there are gender-neutral restrooms if you need them! If you have special dietary restrictions or need any special accommodations, please let us know.
